Strategy aims to build hundreds of heliports for emergency situations

The National Helicopter Landing Point Plan will be key for reaching forest fires in time.

As part of the National Forest Fire Prevention, Mitigation, and Combatting Plan 2023-2024, authorities led by Minister of Public works, Jessica López, and Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, launched the strategy to build hundreds of heliports throughout the country in order to respond to emergency situations.

The National Helicopter Landing Point Plan aims to provide supporting infrastructure for helicopters during various emergency situations, such as fighting forest fires.

This plan will increase connectivity for areas which, in the event of an emergency or catastrophe, are isolated and require immediate assistance, enabling the State to provide a timely response in this type of situations.

Objectives of the National Helicopter Landing Point Plan

As this is a national plan, the following objectives have been established in order to ensure coverage throughout the country:

  • Short term: Build 100 helicopter landing points by 2026 (investment of approx. Ch$40.0 billion, or US$44.0 million)
  • Medium term: Build 260 helicopter landing points by 2030 (investment of approx. Ch$100.0 billion, or US$110.0 million)
  • Population benefitting from the plan: national coverage that will have the potential to benefit close to 2.5 million people.
