With a top speed of 160 km/hour (about 100 miles/hour), the train will help to reduce travel time.

Today, the fastest train in South America—which in an initial stage will operate between Santiago Central Station and Curicó, before extending its route to Chillán in the near future—took its first trip.

Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz, together with Minister Secretary General of the Government, Camila Vallejo, and President of State railway company EFE, Eric Martín, were present on this inaugural journey, and highlighted the reduced travel times and new standard of service offered by this modern train.

The inauguration of the fastest train in South America marks a milestone in the modernization and expansion of railway services promoted by the Government as part of the Trains for Chile plan.
