Work begins on Santiago Metro Line 6 extension

The Santiago Metro Line 6 extension will add three kilometers and an additional station west of the current Cerrillos terminal station. 

Excavation work began this Thursday morning on the Santiago Metro Line 6 western extension.

Characteristics of the Santiago Metro Line 6 western extension 

The Metro Line 6 western extension will benefit 90,000 Santiago inhabitants, mainly from Cerrillos. It involves an investment of US$196.9 million. 

The three-kilometer extension will include a new station, Lo Errázuriz. The deadline for completion is the last quarter of 2027. 

Line 6 will also be extended to the east. The estimated completion date for this section is 2028, as part of the works on Line 7. 

Travel times

It is estimated that the travel time between the future Lo Errázuriz station and the EFE terminal station in Melipilla will be 46 minutes. This will be 61% less than the current travel time of two hours. 

The travel time between the Cerrillos station and the future Lo Errázuriz station will be three minutes. This is 87% less than the current travel time of 23 minutes. 

The travel time between the future Lo Errázuriz station and the Los Leones station will be 24 minutes, 56% less than the current 54 minutes.
