Find out about the new Metro Line 7 trains

They will be the most modern and spacious on the entire underground train network.

Progress continues at a steady pace on Santiago Metro’s future Line 7. This week, the 37 new trains that will circulate on this network were presented.

They will be built by French company Alstom and will be the most modern on the network. They will have capacity for 1,250 passengers, air conditioning, USB ports for mobile devices and a modern signaling system that will allow frequent service during rush hour.

The “Metropolis” model train will have five cars, a total length of 102 meters and a width of 2.9 meters. They will have four wide doors per car and broad aisles that will facilitate the entry and exit of passengers. They will also have spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility.

The trains will operate without a driver. They will also have air conditioning and an advanced passenger information system with data on the route and stations, as well as a modern cybersecurity system.

“We are very happy to get to know the trains on the future Line 7, which will be the most modern in the entire Santiago Metro network when the new route comes into operation towards the end of 2028. They have a high technological standard that will modernize the service for passengers in the eight municipalities through which the route will pass, as well as for the city in general,” Ximena Schultz, Metro project manager.

The trains will also have high-resolution cameras and intercoms to maintain communication between users and the Metro control center, improving the safety of passengers and infrastructure.

Future Metro Line 7

The Metro Line 7 project will connect the municipalities of Renca and Vitacura in approximately 37 minutes. It will have an extension of 26 kilometers and 19 stations. It is currently under construction, with the aim of improving the quality of life and mobility for millions of Santiago residents.

“With the inauguration of the new Line 7, people will see their travel times reduced between the terminal stations by half, compared to the time it currently takes between their homes and workplaces or study centers. That means more time to spend with family, friends and loved ones,” stated Ximena Schultz, Metro project manager.
