Authorities complete first stage of debris removal in areas affected by fires

The removal of all remaining debris was achieved in 25 days. It meant transporting almost 50,000 tons of debris to the El Molle landfill. 

It was announced this morning that the government has managed to remove all of the street debris that was the result of the fires that affected the municipalities of Quilpué, Villa Alemana and Viña del Mar. 

This completes the first stage of debris removal carried out by the Public Works Ministry following the mandate of President Boric. 

The removal of all remaining street debris was achieved in 25 days. It meant transporting almost 50,000 tons of debris to the El Molle landfill. 

Start of the second stage of debris removal 

Following completion of the first stage of debris removal from the streets, a second stage will involve the demolition of the homes that cannot be recovered and subsequent removal of the waste. 

This work will be carried out thanks to a public-private alliance with the Chilean Chamber of Construction, and will be followed by reconstruction efforts.
