A new fleet of electric buses will operate in the south of Santiago

More than 214 electric buses will replace diesel buses and improve the quality of life of thousands of people.

Today, a new fleet of electric buses was showcased that will replace diesel buses operating in the municipalities of San Bernardo, El Bosque, La Pintana, and La Cisterna, in excellent news for the Santiago public transport system.

In total, 214 new buses will be incorporated, taking the number of electric buses in the Santiago public transport system to over 2,400. This figure will increase further with the new tender that was recently approved by the Comptroller General of the Republic, which will incorporate an additional 1,200 electric buses.

The buses, manufactured by Chinese company Yutong, will be operated by Voy Santiago and will replace the orange diesel buses that circulate primarily in the south of Santiago.

Technical details on the 214 new electric buses

  • Yutong electric buses offer cutting-edge technology, including an innovative safety system for their batteries, guaranteeing reliable and safe operation, increasing their performance and extending their useful life by incorporating nitrogen cooling systems.
  • The buses comply with international standards such as IP68 and IP6K9K, which guarantee protection against water and dust, ensuring the reliability and safety of the buses’ main components, such as the engine, batteries, and battery junction box. This prevents possible damage and faults in the system.
  • In terms of safety, the buses also have front, back, and side cameras and sensors to reduce the risk of accidents or crashes.
