Transport and Telecommunications Ministry and Nuevo Pudahuel airport detail changes that will apply to international travel from Monday, November 1

  • Travelers who have validated their completed vaccination scheme through Chile’s Health Ministry (MINSAL) will be allowed to enter Chile and quarantine only for the time it takes to obtain the results of a PCR test.

  • Nuevo Pudahuel’s general manager indicated that the terminal has a sanitary protocol in place, with hand sanitizer dispensers, information and service assistants available, in order to receive a greater influx of passengers.

  • More than 1.3 million passengers are expected in November, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.

Transport and Telecommunications Minister Gloria Hutt, together with Secretary-General of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), Martín Mackenna, and Nuevo Pudahuel General Manager Xavier Lortat-Jacob, detailed the requirements that passengers will need to comply with if they wish to travel both within Chile and abroad from Monday, November 1.

During the meeting, Minister Hutt emphasized that the Pase de Movilidad (Mobility Pass) will remain valid and will continue granting greater freedom of movement. She also explained that “starting next week, everyone over the age of 12 will need to have their own Mobility Pass. For those under the age of 12, the permissions granted by the document will apply to minors who have not completed their vaccination scheme if they are accompanied by a parent, tutor or legal guardian who has.”

Mr. Mackenna called on all those traveling domestically or abroad to be aware of the requirements set out by the health authorities. “We estimate that there will be more than 1,250,000 passengers in October. This represents a sustained increase since July, following progress with the Plan Paso a Paso (Step-by-Step Plan) and the progressive opening of borders. In any event, we are far from what we saw in 2019. International traffic is 73% less than two years ago and domestic travel is down 16%,” indicated the Secretary-General of JAC.

“It’s important to point out that, from Monday, everyone entering the country from abroad with their Mobility Pass will be allowed to end their five-day quarantine once they receive a negative PCR result from the test taken at the airport upon arrival. Children under the age of six will also be allowed to leave the country without restrictions, as they can’t obtain a Mobility Pass. We believe that these measures will allow us to keep recovering international traffic,” Minister Hutt commented.

Nuevo Pudahuel General Manager Xavier Lortat-Jacob added, “from Monday, following the progress of the Plan Fronteras Protegidas (Protected Borders Plan), we expect more people to travel abroad from Santiago’s airport. Nuevo Pudahuel has thus put all health and safety measures and protocols in place, contributing to safe travel, as it has done throughout the pandemic. Among these measures are more than 25 service assistants to provide information, 72 hand sanitizer dispensers in the terminal, more than 4,500 stickers to mark out social distancing in lines and on seats, as well as daily sanitizing processes.”

“In November, we expect more than 1,130,000 passengers, which represents a sustained increase since July, following the progressive opening of borders. In any event, we are far from what we saw in 2019. International traffic is 73% less than two years ago and domestic travel is down 16%. This has had a significant impact, not only on this concession, but on the entire air transport industry,” Mr. Lortat-Jacob added.
