On Wednesday, President Sebastián Piñera underscored the 70 years of friendship and collaboration between Chile and Israel after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"I'm sure that the most inspiring aspects of our relationship are yet to come," the President said after the meeting in the Office of Prime Minister Netanyahu in Jerusalem, adding that "the synergy between Israel and Chile is very, very powerful."

The President and the Israeli Prime Minister signed eight agreements to foster scientific cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, security, cybersecurity, air service, the energy industry and water resources and wastewater management.

"Israel has developed technology to be able to irrigate the desert and we want to apply that technology in Chile so as to be able to irrigate our desert, and be able to harvest bountiful fruits and improve the quality of life in the regions of northern Chile," said the President of Chile.

Earlier in the day, President Piñera met with the President of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, in addition to visiting the Mabat space facility and the Hadassah Medical Center and BioHouse, facilities focused on the development of technology for security and defense along with healthcare, respectively.

"It’s the same project that we are developing in Chile so that healthcare and technology are at the service of all Chileans," the President added.

Trade between Chile and Israel has recorded year-on-year growth averaging 7% since 2013, totaling US$281 million in 2018, with US$153 million in exports and US$ 128 million in imports.
