President emphasizes unity for addressing the pandemic: “Let’s keep our guard up, be responsible, and protect the health of all Chileans”

During his Fiestas Patrias (independence day holiday) address, President Piñera called on all Chileans to follow the health measures to prevent the coronavirus from spreading.

The President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, made a call on Thursday for caution and responsibility during the independence day celebrations.

“We mustn’t lose in a few days what we have achieved, so carefully and with so much sacrifice, in the past six months. Let’s keep our guard up, be responsible and protect the lives and health of all Chileans,” said the President during his address at La Moneda Palace. He was accompanied by Minister Secretary General of the Presidency Cristián Monckeberg, Minister Secretary General of the Government Jaime Bellolio and Social Development Minister Karla Rubilar.

During his speech, President Piñera emphasized that the country must not only resist and overcome adversity, but that Chilean society must build a better country that it can leave with pride and hope to the generations to come.

“This pandemic has taught us yet again that nobody can just save themself. We are all in this boat together and we will only reach safe harbor if we row in unison,” concluded the President.
