Ministry of Foreign Affairs launches citizen consultation on return policies for Chileans abroad

The process, which will run through August 7, is intended to gather the opinions and suggestions of Chileans living abroad about the implementation of policies aimed at facilitating their return to Chile and reintegration.

As part of his visit to Europe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Ampuero launched the Virtual Citizen Consultation on Return Policies this morning in Berlin. The process will run through August 7.

The survey consists of 13 questions and is designed to elicit suggestions and opinions from Chileans living in other countries in regard to the implementation of policies aimed at facilitating their return and reintegration.

According to the Second Report on Chileans Abroad (INE 2017), 50% of Chileans living abroad over the age of 15 stated that they intended to return to or live in Chile.

Anyone interested in participating in this exercise may visit Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and click on the banner "Citizen Consultation for Chileans Abroad.”

Citizen consultations are a citizen participation mechanism provided for in the General Rules for Citizen Participation of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Law No. 20.500 of 2015).

They are meant to gain insight into matters of public interest by gathering opinions on government policies, improvements, plans, programs or projects, thus reinforcing official channels for receiving information and feedback.
