Listen here: The official Santiago 2023 song is launched

"A la cima [To the Summit]" is the name of the song performed by Ana Tijoux, Movimiento Original, and DJ Bitman.

The official song of Santiago 2023, Chile’s first Pan American and Parapan American Games and the most important sporting event in the history of Chile, was launched last Sunday at a free activity held at the Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral (GAM).

The name of the song, which is performed by Ana Tijoux, Movimiento Original, and DJ Bitman, is "A la cima [To the Summit]." It was presented to an enthusiastic audience at the GAM.

Minister of Sports Jaime Pizarro and Minister of the Interior Carolina Tohá addressed the audience prior to the show, highlighting the historical importance of the event and the connection that should exist between culture and sports.

"These games can be an opportunity for Chile to come together. I grew up hearing the story of how we hosted the World Cup after an earthquake. We are a great country, and these games will prove it," said Minister Tohá.

"There is no question that there is a powerful connection between culture and sports, which is why we also felt that it would be very valuable to have music and accompaniment during the almost 80 days we have left before the games," said Minister Pizarro.

Historical relevance

The Pan American and Parapan American Games will bring together nearly 9,000 elite athletes from throughout the Americas from October 20 to November 26 of this year, making it the largest sporting event that Chile has hosted since the 1962 World Cup.

The event enjoys the highest level of support from the government, which is drawing on the work of many ministries and services.

Santiago 2023 is less than three months away, and will leave an important legacy that includes numerous world-class sports venues; the National Stadium Park, which will become one of the largest urban sports parks on the continent; the Santiago 2023 Village, which will receive thousands of athletes from across the Americas and will later be made available to hundreds of families through Ministry of Housing and Urban Development subsidies; and a positive impact on jobs, tourism and the economy, etc.
