Foreign Affairs Ministry organizes support for Chileans in Ukraine

As Chile does not have physical representation in Ukraine, it has maintained communication with the embassies of friendly countries with consular and diplomatic representation there, in order to provide assistance if necessary.

Due to the complex situation in Ukraine, Chile’s Foreign Affairs Ministry is carrying out various procedures to facilitate the evacuation of Chilean residents there and to protect their safety, via the Chilean Embassy in Poland and the Consulate in Warsaw.

Although airlines have suspended flights in and out of Ukraine, the land border with Poland is open for all citizens leaving the country.

Conversations have been held with the Polish immigration and diplomatic authorities, who have stated that they are considering lifting the requirement of a COVID-19 test. Border-point authorities have also been authorized to assess exceptions.

As Chile does not have physical representation in Ukraine, it has maintained communication with the embassies of friendly countries with consular and diplomatic representation there, in order to provide assistance if necessary. In this regard, every effort is being made to find transport to evacuate Chileans, and further information will be provided to our citizens as soon as it is confirmed.

Furthermore, we report that Chile will be able to provide emergency passports to Chileans without documents at the land border with Poland. Embassy officials will travel to the border for that purpose if necessary.

We reiterate that the channels of communication with the resident Chilean community in Ukraine will be kept open and that we will continue to make efforts to contact all Chileans registered with the Consulate, in order to confirm their location, health conditions, and plans for moving to a safe place.

Lastly, we report that there have currently been no Chileans wounded nor killed. We strongly advise all Chileans in Ukraine to remain vigilant and we once again urge them to leave the country via any available means of transport.
