Chile in final stages to host 2025 UCI Track Cycling World Championships

It is the first time that Chile will host this world-class competition.

Chile is in the final stages to host the UCI Track Cycling World Championships. It would be the first time that this important international event takes place in our country.

The cycling competition is one step away from being awarded to Chile, thanks largely to the sporting infrastructure left by Santiago 2023, in particular the Peñalolén Velodrome.

In this sense, Sport Minister Jaime Pizarro highlighted, “it is an honor for us to be able to host this prestigious event. The infrastructure of the Peñalolén Velodrome, together with Chile’s experience in organizing large-scale sports events, makes us look to the future with great optimism.”

The minister stressed that the government knows of the benefits that organizing international sports events has for the country and our society: “We are eager to take this new step to continue consolidating ourselves as a strong country in terms of sports organization.”

The 2025 event will be the 122nd version of a competition that began in 1893. It is the first time that Chile will host the competition. In Latin America, it has only previously been held in Colombia, Venezuela and Uruguay.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games were the most important events in Chile’s sporting history. Our country has also hosted the Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup and the South American School Games. Next year, we will host the Men’s Soccer Under 20 World Cup, and we are now in the final stages of our applications to organize the 2027 Special Olympics World Games and the 2025 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
