Cecilia Morel shares Chile’s positive aging plan with the First Lady of Panama

Chile’s First Lady is participating in an international tour alongside President Sebastián Piñera to the member countries of the Caribbean Community (Caricom). Whilst in Panama, she met with her counterpart, Lorena Castillo, in order to share experiences and strengthen ties of cooperation and friendship.

The topics addressed by the two women included Mrs. Morel’s experiences while responsible for seven institutions that report to the President of the Republic: Fundación Chilenter, which seeks to extend technology access; Fundación de las Familias, which assists families; the national youth and children's orchestras organization, Fundación de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles; the organization that manages the Interactive museum Fundación Tiempos Nuevos; the childcare provision charity Fundación Integra; Fundación Prodemu, which is designed to promote women’s development; and handicrafts promotion charity, Fundación Artesanías de Chile.

Cecilia Morel also described to the first lady of Panama the Positive Aging Plan for Senior Citizens that she is leading in Chile, which involves cross-sector policies that aim to restore, integrate, and re-establish the rights of senior citizens in society.

Panama’s First Lady, Lorena Castillo de Varela, is the UNAIDS Special Ambassador for Latin America and Global Spokesperson for the Zero Discrimination Movement. She told Cecilia Morel about initiatives that she leads, which aim to increase awareness and promote people’s rights to a full, dignified and productive life. Mrs. Morel enthusiastically supported this project.

“I invite everyone to grow together in respect, to open our arms and welcome each other, respecting our differences, because what makes us all equal is that we are all different. We should welcome diversity so as to make the world a better place," said Mrs. Cecilia Morel following the meeting.

After this visit, Cecilia Morel and the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, joined the crew of the naval training ship “Esmeralda” as it passed through the Panama canal. The international tour culminates this Wednesday with a visit to the United States of America.
