President Piñera’s tour culminates in his participation in a science and innovation forum in the United States

President Sebastián Piñera took part on Wednesday in Sun Valley 2018, a technology conference in Idaho, where he also met with top digital leaders.

The president was the main presenter on Wednesday, in a dialogue moderated by Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) president Luis Alberto Moreno. President Piñera discussed the need to drive comprehensive development in Chile in order to build momentum for new technologies in public policies and in the classroom.

Among the attendees at the forum were executives from the world’s foremost technology and innovation companies, as well as entrepreneurs and representatives from international organizations.

President Piñera also had meetings with Tim Cook, CEO of Apple; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon; Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook; Ana Botin, CEO of Grupo Santander and founder and president of NGO Fundación CyD; Marcos Galperín, CEO of MercadoLibre and Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix.

The President said that during these meetings they had discussed strategic partnerships with Chile in the areas of healthcare, education, modernizing the state, and the digital economy. He said that these partnerships “will be very useful and powerful for strengthening our economy and enabling us to really become part of the information and knowledge society.”

This was the last stop on the tour which also took President Piñera and First Lady Cecilia Morel to the Caricom Summit in Jamaica and on official visits to Costa Rica and Panama.
