[ARCHIVO] Government spokesman Marcelo Díaz emphasizes the “civic maturity, responsibility and commitment” of the Chileans at the Provincial Meetings

The Minister Secretary General of the Government, Marcelo Díaz visited the provincial meeting at the Juan Pablo Duarte school this morning, together with the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Nicolás Eyzaguirre, the Finance Minister, Rodrigo Valdés and the Mayoress of Providencia, Josefa Errázuriz. Following the meeting, Minister Díaz said “we are very pleased with how this process has been going. I believe that the Chileans have shown civic maturity, responsibility and commitment and we should all be very delighted to see how the Chilean people are getting involved in such an important decision as the building of a Constitution”.

The Minister added, “the Constitution that governs us today was made by 12 people. Over 100,000 Chileans have already taken part in this Constitution. During this process to draft a new constitution there will be different moments when the people of Chile will be called on to participate, express their opinions and make decisions about the Constitution that we want to be the common ground of all Chileans”.

Minister Díaz called on “those who have still not gone to the meetings taking place today to go and take part. I’d also like to remind them again that the regional meetings will take place across the country on August 6. The only requirement is to be over 14 years old, want to participate and to go along that day with your identity card. Over the last two days, we have seen more than 10,000 Chilean men and women contributing their opinions towards the writing of this constitution of all the Chilean people. Everyone has the right and the opportunity to take part”.
