#VotaporChile: Chile aims to maintain its Leading Position as the Best Adventure Tourism Destination in the World Travel Awards

Through the #VotaporChile campaign, Chile hopes to crown the Atacama Desert as the Leading Tourist Attraction in the region. Those who want to support the country in the “Oscars” of tourism have until August 5 to vote.

Just a few months away from the World Travel Awards results—the most reputable awards in the tourism industry—the Tourism Undersecretary, together with the Chilean National Tourism Service (Sernatur), launched a campaign aiming to increase the votes for Chile in the 19 categories in which Chile is competing this year, and particularly emphasizing 2 nominations.

The initiative, with its #VotaporChile message used on social media, is asking Chileans and foreigners to vote so that our country will be elected as “South America’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination” for the fourth consecutive year, and maintain the global recognition that Chile has received in the last two years, beating countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and the United States.

Likewise, within the framework of this campaign, the nomination of the Atacama Desert as South America’s Leading Tourist Attraction is another of the opportunities in the 2018 World Travel Awards, thanks to the comparative advantages and differentiating elements that make this destination in the Antofagasta Region an attraction for unique experiences in Latin America.

The voting for the awards is open to the public. Anyone wishing to vote has until August 5 to visit the website of the World Travel Awards, as well as the website of the Tourism Undersecretary and Sernatur, on the Ministry of Economy’s website.

Regarding the campaign, Tourism Undersecretary Mónica Zalaquett emphasized the importance of Chile maintaining its leading position as an adventure tourism destination, as this award is a recognition of the unique attributes of a country. In this sense, she highlighted that “sportspeople and those who love the outdoors prefer Chile for the quality of the wind, the variety of mountains, or the diversity of water and forest conditions in the south to practice their sports or other activities that allow travelers to connect with nature, in a way that few other destinations can offer”.

Other Nominations for Chile

This year, our country was nominated in 19 categories for the World Travel Awards. Among these nominations are Cruise Port, Green Destination, Cultural Destination, Culinary Destination, Festival & Event Destination, Nature Destination, Whale Watching Destination, and Youth Travel Destination.

In the case of the Chilean capital, Santiago, the city is competing for the Best Cultural Destination, Sports Tourism Destination, and the Most Romantic Destination in South America.

The results for the 2018 version will be announced on September 15 in Guayaquil and will bring together all of the Latin American countries that hope to be recognized for their tourism destinations as well as the excellency of the agencies and experiences in the tourism industry.
