The President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, held a working meeting with the President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, held at Asunción’s Palacio de López (López Palace), President Piñera announced the donation of 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Paraguay. He was honored with the National Order of Merit and awarded the “Field Marshal Francisco Solano López Necklace”.

“We have agreed to contribute an additional 100,000 vaccine doses, which we expect to arrive in Paraguay in the coming days, in order to collaborate with vaccination efforts,” the President declared. He also laid a floral tribute at the Panteón de Los Héroes (Pantheon of Heroes).

At the meeting, the Presidents addressed the importance of making progress on the Economic Complementation Agreement between Chile and Paraguay. The fourth and last round of negotiations are due to take place this October.

Additionally, they discussed in depth the production of clean and renewable energy and efforts to interconnect Chile’s northern ports via the bi-oceanic corridor, which passes through Paraguayan territory.

“We have advanced in terms of integration and, especially, of joining forces to confront the great challenges of modern times,” President Piñera stated. He was accompanied by First Lady Cecilia Morel, Foreign Affairs Minister Andrés Allamand, Health Minister Enrique Paris and a delegation of senators and representatives.
