President Piñera announces the construction of a new hospital in the northern part of the Metropolitan Region

The new facility will be built in Colina and will benefit almost 700,000 inhabitants in the districts of Independencia, Recoleta, Conchalí, Huechuraba, Quilicura, Colina, Lampa and Til Til, at an investment of US$230 million.

On Wednesday, President Sebastián Piñera announced the construction of a new high-complexity hospital at the intersection of the districts of Quilicura, Lampa and Colina, which will improve the speed and quality of healthcare for thousands of inhabitants in the northern part of the Metropolitan Region.

The new facility, to be built in Colina, will decongest hospitals such as San José and Roberto del Río, reducing waiting lists, emergency care times and patient travel time.

"This comprehensive solution is so much more than just a new hospital," said the President during a visit to the construction site of the Hospital del Salvador and the National Institute of Geriatrics in Providencia, which will benefit around 600,000 people.

The new hospital in the northern zone, at an investment of US$230 million, will add 368 beds to the healthcare system and will provide specialist care in gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine and geriatrics, among others.

During the ceremony, the President highlighted the progress of his 2018-2022 investment plan for public healthcare, which involves an investment of more than US$10 billion during the four years of his administration and that will add approximately 12,400 beds to the public healthcare system.

The program involves the construction of 25 new hospitals by March 2022, benefiting 3 million people.

The plan is making significant progress, with 37 sites already under construction.

"We are making great strides to fulfill our promise to all Chileans that when they are sick, when they need it most, they can get decent healthcare that is timely and high-quality," said the President, who was accompanied by Health Minister, Jaime Mañalich.
