President Gabriel Boric received by President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping

As part of his state visit, the Chilean president highlighted the importance of the Asian giant as our main trading partner. 

President Gabriel Boric held a high-level meeting with the president of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, as part of his state visit to the Asian giant. 

It was an important meeting, as for more than a decade China has been Chile’s main trading partner, and both countries share a long association that includes cultural and economic aspects. 

Milestones of a close relationship 

✅ 1970: Chile was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with China.

✅ 1999: Chile promoted and supported China’s admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

✅ 2004: Chile was the first Latin American country to recognize China as a market economy.

✅ 2005: Chile was the first country with which China signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

✅ 2022: Trade with China reached US$65.5 billion. The country has been our main trading partner for more than a decade.
