President of Chile Gabriel Boric Font concludes his visit to New York as part of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly

The President closed his visit to the United States, where he also met with other authorities and representatives of international organizations. 

The President of Chile, Gabriel Boric Font, concluded his visit to New York this morning after speaking with the national media, as part of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. 

“The central message that we wanted to convey to the countries of the world on behalf of all Chileans is that Chile is a serious and responsible country, convinced of the importance of multilateralism,” stated the President. He added, “in addition, it is necessary to respond to the demands for social justice and equity that exist in our societies in order to advance towards greater democracy.” 

Presidential schedule 

President Boric kicked off the week by participating in the plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as a series of bilateral meetings with different authorities. 

On Wednesday, the President met with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, as well as the President of the World Bank, David Malpass. He also participated in a commemoration for the 50th anniversary of Salvador Allende’s speech to the United Nations. 

On his third day in New York, the President held a meeting at the Council of the Americas with a group of associated businesspersons to promote investment in Chile. He then moved on to the New Zealand mission, where he shared a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Jacinta Ardern. 

Finally, the President spoke at a forum convened by the World Leaders Program at Columbia University, in which more than 300 students from the university participated. After his speech, he went to Brooklyn, where he shared a relaxed conversation with the former President of the United States, Barack Obama. 

The President and his delegation fly back to Santiago de Chile tonight.
