President Bachelet Visits Science Camp in Punta Arenas
The camp, which was started in 2013, offers public school students between the ages of 5 and 17 from cities throughout the region an opportunity to learn about scientific and technological research. The program offered 13 workshops and hosted 420 participants during its first year. This year, 20 workshops were delivered to over 550 students.
This is a day camp, so students return home each afternoon. Students over the age of 10 attend a daily lecture offered by researchers from the Magallanes Science Network followed by workshops. The schedule is designed to allow students to take part in various activities.
It is worth mentioning that in July 2015, the Regional Council of Magallanes increased its contribution to the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) from 52 million pesos to 200 million.
