President Bachelet signs joint statement with the President of Honduras

The document, which concludes the official visit by the President of Honduras, was signed by both presidents during a ceremony at the Patio Las Camelias in La Moneda Palace. The statement confirms both nations’ willingness to persevere with cooperation and dialogue. After the signing ceremony President Bachelet and President Hernández issued a statement to the press.

President Bachelet signed a joint declaration at La Moneda Palace with the President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, following a series of bilateral meetings between the two delegations. They were accompanied by the Chilean and Honduran Foreign Affairs Ministers, Heraldo Muñoz and Arturo Corrales.

“This visit is of great significance to Chile. We have held very constructive meetings, in which we discussed the nature of the friendship that binds our nations together, a friendship that reflects a shared history of cooperation in the broadest terms,” President Bachelet said.

During the meetings, the presidents reviewed details of the bilateral relationship between Chile and Honduras. They also agreed upon the challenges that lie ahead “because, in addition to the areas where we are already working together and where we can deepen our relationship, President Hernández and I agree that we must address new aspects of our relationship, such as mining, export promotion and infrastructure. The Chilean and Honduran authorities responsible for these areas have already met and will continue meeting to set a specific agenda for the future,” President Bachelet explained.

In her closing remarks, President Bachelet reiterated her commitment to strengthening the friendship with Honduras: “To summarize, I am convinced, President, that your visit to Chile will mark a clear milestone on our journey towards a deeper relationship, which will also mean greater growth and wellbeing for our nations.” Finally she added: “So we would like to thank you for coming here, to continue along the path of integration the nations of Latin America have taken.”

Prior to signing the agreements, President Hernández’s delegation held talks with President Bachelet’s Cabinet ministers at La Moneda Palace.
During the meeting, both presidents stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Chile and Honduras.
