The process, which stood out for its successful implementation, was identical to that conducted in Chile and abode by the health measures established in each country in response to the global pandemic.
Of the 59,522 registered overseas voters, 30,912 Chileans participated. The number of votes, by continent, was directly related to the number of Chileans registered on the electoral rolls, which grew by 52% this year compared to the 2017 electoral roll.
In the Americas, 12,382 people voted; 14,321 in Europe; 3,567 in Oceania; 601 in Asia and 41 in Africa. The countries with the highest voter participation were the United States with 3,988 votes; Spain with 3,564; Germany with 2,749; Australia with 2,709; and Canada with 2,492.
In coordination with the Chilean Electoral Service, the Foreign Affairs Ministry was responsible for implementing overseas voting through its consulates and personnel abroad. The Foreign Affairs Ministry also set up a help center for all consulates on its premises.
The process occurred without incident and in line with the provisions of Chilean law and the regulations in each country where the votes were cast.
