The National Electromobility Strategy is approved and published

  • “This state policy draws up a roadmap for us to progress towards the development of sustainable transport, with direct benefits for Chileans,” Energy Undersecretary Francisco López stated.

  • One of its key goals is for all light and medium vehicles sold to be zero emission by 2035.

Resolution N°8/2022 has been approved and published in the Official Gazette as part of the Government’s new National Electromobility Strategy. Its objective is to establish strategic guidelines, such as specific measures and goals, which support faster and sustainable electromobility development in Chile.

One of its key goals is for all light and medium vehicles sold, all public transport (buses, taxis and shared taxis) and heavy equipment sales to be zero emission by 2035. All of this will be of direct benefit to Chileans’ life quality.

“This is a state policy that draws up a roadmap for us to progress towards the development of sustainable transport, with direct benefits for Chileans. It will also allow us to reduce our dependency on imported fossil fuels,” Energy Undersecretary Francisco López emphasized.

He added, “this strategy was developed as part of a participatory process with the collaboration of an advisory committee, technical committees, inter-ministerial meetings, and public and private workshops.”

In October 2021, the document was submitted to public consultation, in order to receive the observations of citizens, academia, and industry. In January 2022, the final version was published, and is now available on the Energy Ministry’s electromobility platform.

Resolution

The resolution establishes that the Energy Ministry will be in charge of leading the strategy’s implementation, keeping track of it, and updating it every five years.

The Energy Ministry will also create an Advisory Commission to advise on the process of updating the strategy. The Commission will convene every five years in order to carry out a review of the strategy.
