The project includes an investment of more than US$58 million. It will create new spaces in the terminal to serve 20 million people a year.

The Government gave the go-ahead today for modernization work to begin on Santiago Airport’s Domestic Terminal. The project will expand and remodel the terminal so that it is able to serve almost 20 million passengers each year.

The event to mark the start of the work was attended by President Gabriel Boric, Public Works Minister Jessica López and the CEO of Santiago’s Nuevo Pudahuel Airport, François-Regis Le Miere.

The modernization work on the Domestic Terminal includes an investment of close to US$58.7 million.

Details on the modernization project for the Airport’s Domestic Terminal

The project will cover a total area of 131,776 square meters, and includes construction of a 17,334 square meter departure lounge. It will also create additional boarding gates, increasing the number from the current 22 to 42 (26 connected and 16 remote).

Other features of the project are:

  • New General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) offices and control rooms.
  • More commercial and service areas.
  • New technology in the check-in area.
  • New flight screens.
  • Creation of a second departure and security control area.

The new terminal will also have space for operating wide and narrow-body aircraft.

As in the International Terminal (T2), where piers C, D, E and F serve the different areas of Chile, Terminal T1A will serve the country’s central coastal zone.

Benefits of the modernization project

The modernization project for Santiago Airport’s Domestic Terminal consists of a series of works that will generate nearly 300 direct jobs during the construction stage.

Along with the above, the project includes:

  • Creation of new sectors.
  • Improvement to quality of service.
  • Improved experience for passengers and users.
  • Increased processing capacity for the public services that operate at the airport, as well as for airlines.

The remodeling works for the new terminal will take approximately 20 months. The reception process is anticipated to take three months, so delivery is expected by the end of 2025.
