Minister Prokurica at the official opening of the APRIMIN 2020 Annual Forum: “We want to export Chilean mining services, which are world-class”

The Mining Minister commented that 20% of companies in Peru providing goods and services in this sector are Chilean and that the industry is seeking new markets in Mexico, Australia and Canada.

Mining Minister Baldo Prokurica, together with Industrial Mining Suppliers Association (APRIMIN) President Pascual Veiga, presided over the opening of the 2020 Annual Forum “Mining: A solution for Chile and the world”. The minister underscored the important role these companies have played in the resiliency of the economic activity during the pandemic and spoke about the work that is being done to export these types of services to different countries.

During the event, the minister highlighted the mining sector’s performance, pointing to the fact that “it reported a positive value on the Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMACEC) for six out of eight months. This translates into a contribution of close to US$ 3 billion to the national treasury for the current year. These funds are vital for helping the many families that have been suffering due to the pandemic.”

The minister then noted that “none of this would have been possible if Chile did not have such high-quality mining suppliers, because it is an entire supply chain and Chilean suppliers were up to the task during this time.”

Minister Prokurica stated that “we want to export mining services to various countries. We are already doing this in Peru where 20% of mining suppliers are Chilean, yet we also want to open new markets in Mexico, Australia and Canada.” Currently, the Industrial Mining Suppliers Association is comprised of 108 businesses that generate more than 137,000 direct and 375,000 indirect jobs, invoicing US$ 13.5 billion per year.
