Minister Javiera Blanco explains scope of +Capaz program in the Metropolitan region

The Employment and Social Welfare Minister, Javiera Blanco, along with the Governor of the Metropolitan region, Claudio Orrego, met with the region’s mayors today to explain the benefits of the +Capaz program, a training and employability program which will benefit 450,000 young people and women by the year 2018.

The Employment Minister explained that the program provides training for 18 to 29 year olds and women aged between 30 and 64 because “we want them to join the workforce.”

Minister Blanco said that in Chile “there is a low rate of female and youth participation in the workforce, not only in comparison with developed countries but also compared to the rest of Latin America.”

She emphasized that municipalities will have an important role to play in this process, once the professional technical high schools are incorporated, along with technical training institutions, universities, institutes, corporations and foundations.
“We can use the existing high school infrastructure, out of hours, to teach these trades that will enable our young people and women to be employed in the productive sector in areas that currently face labor shortages,” she said.

The Employment Minister remarked that the +Capaz program “is an excellent tool, well-matched to our priorities for this year of injecting more energy and dynamism into an economy that is showing signs of achieving what we want, which is continued growth and a reduction in unemployment.”
