Government presents the first National Policy on Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation

One year on from the creation of the Science Ministry, the authorities are setting in motion a process to institutionalize and extend the guidelines that will orient the development of science policies.

In the presence of more than 25 science companies, the Science Minister, Andrés Couve, presented the first National Policy on Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, developed under the aegis of Chile’s new Science Ministry.

The document, mandated in the law that created the Science Ministry, presents the guidelines for the development of public policies and instruments following four lines of action prioritized by the Government for the long term: links with society; the future; strengthening the science, technology, knowledge and innovation ecosystem; and institutional capacities.

More than one thousand members of the science, technology and business community, from both the public and private sectors, science teachers and many others have contributed to this roadmap that today we are starting to institutionalize in the firm conviction that the generation and application of knowledge helps to improve people’s quality of life and contributes to territorial development,” said Minister Andrés Couve.

He went on to explain that the publication of this Policy will help to guide the action plan of the Science Ministry over the next two years: “The guidelines that we are starting to extend today to the science, technology and innovation ecosystem will help us to address urgent inevitable challenges like technology transformation, climate change and the necessary strengthening of our democracy, through initiatives that will contribute to the integrated sustainable development of Chile,” he added.
