Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren leads Chile-United Kingdom High Level Dialogue II

The United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs visited our country as part of his tour of Latin America, which included Jamaica, Colombia, Chile and Brazil. 

Chile’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Alberto van Klaveren, received the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, James Cleverly. Together, they led the Chile-United Kingdom High Level Dialogue II between both foreign affairs ministries. 

Secretary of State Cleverly’s visit to Chile is part of his tour of Latin America, which included Jamaica, Colombia, Chile and Brazil. 

The meeting between foreign affairs ministers took place in the context of the commemoration of 200 years of consular relations between the two countries. The parties reviewed issues on the global and bilateral agenda, based on shared principles and visions of democracy, human rights and the promotion of peace. 

During the meeting, they discussed climate change, energy transition, sustainable economic growth, trade, investment in non-conventional energy, critical minerals for environmentally responsible industrial development, joint work on the United Nations Human Rights Council and issues of disarmament and non-proliferation. 

Secretary of State Cleverly’s stay in Chile included meetings with youth groups and British businessmen, as well as visits to British investments in our country.
