Chile hosts Artificial Intelligence summit: Learn about the state organizations that have implemented AI

The event for ministers and high-level authorities in Latin American and the Caribbean will take place today and tomorrow in Santiago.

An important event on Artificial Intelligence is being held in Chile: The Ministerial and High Authorities Summit on Artificial Intelligence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

A Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence will take place and a Regional Council on Artificial Intelligence for Latin America and the Caribbean will be established during the event.

The event is being led by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and Chile’s Foreign Affairs and Science ministries. It is the first global regional council on Artificial Intelligence, whose goal is to constitute a leadership space for AI governance in the region.

The event will be attended by high-level authorities from 25 countries on the continent, including Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico, countries with the best scores on the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA) published by Cenia (2023). It will also be attended by several important figures in matters of Artificial Intelligence from Latin America, Europe and the United States.

Did you know that the State already uses AI?

Environment Ministry

  • CQP predictive modeling: machine learning model to predict pollution in the Concón, Quintero and Puchuncaví area.
  • Complaint classification modeling: machine learning model to classify the severity of complaints based on the information provided. It allows the complaints received by the Environment Ministry to be processed more quickly via an automatic process that differentiates those that are not pertinent from those that are environmentally important.

Barros Luco Hospital / Health Ministry

  • Early cancer detection: it is now possible to identify signs of intestinal cancer more accurately and quickly using endoscopic towers with AI.

National Forestry Service (CONAF) / Agriculture Ministry

  • Fire Alert!: Thermal cameras in different parts of the country detect areas with higher temperatures that could indicate a fire.

Health Ministry

  • We care for vision: DART is an intelligent tool that reviews eye exams for symptoms of diabetic retinopathy, freeing up valuable time for ophthalmologists.

National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI)

  • Fast registration: Automation and review of trademarks using AI, making the authorization process much faster!

Social Security Institute (IPS)

  • Safe Social Security: A predictive system identifies those who might forget to collect their benefits and contacts them to remind them.
