65 people expelled from Chile for committing various crimes

They left the country this morning on a commercial charter flight. 411 people have been expelled so far this year.

A charter flight left our country this morning with 65 people on board, who were expelled for committing different crimes or violating immigration regulations in Chile. The government is thus fulfilling its commitment to provide more security to the Chilean people.

The flight meets the criteria of the Government and National Migration Service (SERMIG) to prioritize the expulsion from the country of foreigners who have committed crimes and have a criminal record.

Of those expelled on this flight, 55 committed crimes such as illicit association, robbery with intimidation, robbery with violence, illicit drug trafficking, possession of firearms, kidnapping, robbery in an inhabited place and the illegal carrying of firearms. The 10 administrative expulsions were for entry through an unauthorized pass.

During 2024, a total of 411 people has been expelled to different countries. 208 of them are administrative expulsions and 203 judicial.

“People who commit crimes in our country or who enter irregularly will be expelled. This is a minority of foreigners who reside in Chile, but it is a minority that does a lot of harm. Today’s flight, the 11 previous one and the next flights that we are coordinating are an expression of the Government’s determination,” Luis Eduardo Thayer, director of the National Migration Service.

“We are working to make expulsion processes more effective and improve the capacity of the State. For this, greater powers are needed for the police and National Migration Service; for example, powers to detain people and mechanisms to control the mobility of those who have an expulsion order. We also need to continue coordinating with the countries of origin to carry out the expulsions,” the director added.

Prefect Inspector Christian Sáez, head of Migration and International Police at the Policía de Investigaciones (Investigative Police Service, PDI), reported that “today, 55 judicial expulsions and 10 administrative expulsions have taken place. With regard to the judicial expulsions, they were people of Venezuelan nationality who were convicted of various crimes, such as robbery with intimidation, illicit association, illegal possession of a firearm and kidnapping.” In this way, “the PDI of Chile, in coordination with the National Migration Service, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Venezuelan consulate and the Chilean Prison Service, has complied with the provisions of the court,” concluded the PDI Prefect Inspector.
