Sports Minister appointed president of Corporación Santiago 2023

Sports Minister Jaime Pizarro was elected during an extraordinary board meeting, where all members were present. 

Sports Minister Jaime Pizarro was appointed chairman of the board of directors of Corporación 2023 during an extraordinary session held last Thursday in which all its members were present. 

Miguel Ángel Mujica, president of the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCH) and vice-chairman of the board; Sebastián Villavicencio, president of the Chilean Paralympic Committee (COPACHI); Claudio Orrego, governor of the Metropolitan Region; Aquiles Gómez, vice-president of COCH; Elisa Araya, chancellor of the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación (UMCE); and former athletes Marco Oneto, Blanca Durán and Cáterin Bravo participated in the special session. Gianna Cunazza, executive director of Santiago 2023, and Sports Undersecretary Antonia Illanes also took part in this key meeting. 

Minister Pizarro stated that he was honored to have been chosen to lead the corporation’s board of directors, especially due to its importance to the Pan American and Parapan American Games that will be held in Santiago this year. 

 

“In this position, I hope to be able to contribute my sporting knowledge and promote joint work between all the actors involved, so that we can hold a mega event par excellence,” Jaime Pizarro, Sports Minister. 


The role of the Corporación Santiago 2023 board of directors

The functions of the board of directors of the corporation in charge of Santiago 2023 are to direct and manage the organization, statutes and agreements of the general assemblies, in accordance with the law. 

The corporation must prepare a strategic plan and present the results of sports, financial and economic reports to the general assembly. It must also assume responsibility of the executive management account on a monthly basis.
