What is authorized residency?

What are the qualifications for authorized residency?

Conditions that enable you to stay in the special territory for more than 30 days are called “qualifications for authorized residency”.

The Easter Island Provincial Government is responsible for authorizing residency.

Family: Father or mother of a member of the Rapa Nui people or an authorized resident.

The spouse or civil or common-law partner of a member of the Rapa Nui people or an authorized resident.

Employees: Persons hired to perform or conduct private economic activity on the island.

Public Officials: Persons hired by state entities or state-owned companies. Persons who hold a public office or a position in the judicial branch.

Public Roles: Persons who perform special roles on the island on behalf of a public service concessionaire or a person who holds a contract with the state that must be implemented on Rapa Nui.

Researchers: Persons who are working on a research project related to the island and who are supported by a university or the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT).

Pre-candidates and candidates: Persons registered on the special registry of the electoral register may remain on the island until the publication of the proclamation ruling issued by Chile’s electoral review board (Tricel) or electoral court, as applicable.

Government officials: Persons who hold elected office, beginning upon issuance of the proclamation ruling and ending when they leave the position.

How do I apply for authorized residency?

The Easter Island Provincial Government is responsible for this procedure.

Interested persons must file their request, along with all the documentation to prove that they meet the specific qualification for authorized residency before the provincial government within the corresponding period of time.
