We inaugurate hospital in Lonquimay for 11,000 people

The new hospital in Lonquimay will benefit the municipality, as well as the Malalcahuello, Sierra Nevada and Malleco sectors. 

The inauguration of the Lonquimay hospital took place this Thursday. The hospital will benefit a population of approximately 11,000 people.

The hospital in the municipality of Lonquimay represents an investment of almost $30 billion pesos (US$33 million). 

Characteristics of the new Lonquimay hospital 

This is an intercultural project covering 8,072 square meters, 5,965 square meters of which correspond to hospital infrastructure. 

The hospital has:

  • 18 basic beds
  • Consultation ward for open care 
  • Common wards (acute respiratory infections, adult respiratory diseases, vaccinations, recovery and treatment, procedures shared with accident and emergency)
  • Areas for emergency care (accident and emergency, observation beds, two resuscitation beds and one minor surgery ward). 

The hospital is a two-story building with smaller associated constructions. All are situated on a 1.15-hectare (2.8 acre) plot of land, located in a residential expansion area in the southern sector of Lonquimay. 

The hospital began operating in April of this year, and is awaiting a visit from the Health Ministry for final sanitary authorization to be awarded.
