Validation of information for those vaccinated abroad to begin on August 6

Chile’s Health Ministry announced that the process of requesting validation in Chile for vaccination data received abroad must be carried out via the mevacuno.gob.cl platform. This will allow users to obtain the mobility pass and other benefits.

This Wednesday, Chile’s Health Ministry gave details about the process through which Chileans and foreign residents in Chile will be able to request the validation of their vaccination data received abroad. This will allow users to obtain the mobility pass and other benefits and/or responsibilities that Chilean health authorities deem pertinent.

The procedure will be carried out on the mevacuno.gob.cl platform, where proof of vaccination to enable the mobility pass is also obtained. The process will begin next Friday, August 6. The time it takes to complete the validation process will depend on the information attached and could take up to two weeks.

1. Who can access the system to validate information about vaccination abroad?

Chileans and foreign residents in our country (those with a RUT), who have received the COVID-19 vaccine outside of Chile.

2. Which vaccines can be validated in Chile?

All vaccines that have been approved by Chile’s Public Health Institute (ISP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). These are currently the Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Oxford/AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Sinovac, CanSino and Generium (Sputnik-V) vaccines.

3. How will vaccine validation work from the user’s point of view?

You can access a platform to request validation on the mevacuno.gob.cl website. Minimum fields of personal information must be filled out and documents supporting the vaccination must be attached. The information will be corroborated on a case-by-case basis by Health Ministry officials, who will respond to the request.

4. What information must be attached to validate the vaccination received abroad?

The user must log on to the platform, where they will be asked to complete their identification data and attach information about the vaccination process abroad.

Those who have a digital document with an advanced electronic signature or QR code that proves the information has been issued by an official government body will not require any further documents to carry out the validation request.

Those who have physical validation (vaccination card, certificate or ticket) that cannot be corroborated electronically (QR code or electronic signature) must submit additional information:

  • Passport or other proof that you were in the country where you received the vaccine on the date indicated by the vaccination certificate of that country.
  • Result of an examination carried out in an authorized laboratory in Chilean territory, which certifies that you have positive IgM/IgG antibodies against coronavirus, taken at least 14 days after completing the vaccination process.
  • If the physical certificate is not in Spanish or English, you may be asked to attach an authorized translation of the certificate in either of these two languages.

5. What are the possible outcomes of a validation request?

When a person requests validation of their vaccination abroad, there are three possible outcomes:

a) Incomplete: the application is rejected for being incomplete or inconsistent. The user can then revise their request and make a new application.

b) Valid: after submitting a complete and verifiable application electronically, the application is accepted and the applicant’s data is added to the mevacuno.gob.cl register. This makes proof of vaccination and a QR code with the mobility pass available indefinitely.

c) Temporarily valid: if a person is abroad and has consistent records that are not electronically verifiable, they may be included on the register temporarily. This will provide them with a mobility pass to enter the country and isolate at home. To permanently validate their registration and use the mobility pass in Chile, they may be asked to provide additional information after entering the country, such as the antibody test indicated in 4.b).

6. How useful is the temporary validation of the vaccination record abroad?

Those who are abroad and request the validation of their vaccination with information that cannot be verified electronically can obtain temporary validation. This allows the user to enter the country and carry out the mandatory ten-day quarantine at home, not at a transit hotel. After completing the mandatory isolation, they must complete the validation process to receive an indefinite valid pass.

7. How can the vaccination of those who received temporary validation be validated permanently or indefinitely?

For those who have received temporary validation to permanently validate their vaccination, the positive result of an antibody test taken in Chilean territory by an authorized laboratory or additional information required by the application’s reviewer must be presented. This must be uploaded to the same mevacuno.gob.cl platform on which the original request was made to await final validation.

8. When can you begin the procedure? How long will the validation process take for vaccines received outside of Chile?

The process will open on August 6 on the mevacuno.gob.cl website. The time the validation process take will depend on the information attached and could take up to two weeks.
