President Piñera and the Prime Minister of Jamaica promote cooperation in sports, trade agreements and disaster relief

President Sebastián Piñera held a bilateral meeting on Saturday with the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, during which they agreed to promote collaboration in sports, trade and disaster relief.

They signed a Declaration of Intent to promote the visit of Jamaican Olympic medalists to Chile, where they will hold athletics sports clinics in public schools. In return, Chilean athletes will travel to Jamaica to provide training in tennis, field hockey and gymnastics.

With respect to trade, the two leaders highlighted the importance of promoting exports and the exchange of information in order to boost activity, and agreed on the need to move forward in the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017 between ProChile and the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (Jampro). This was in addition to President Piñera's invitation to make progress with a Free Trade Agreement with the 15 Member States of Caricom.

President Piñera highlighted Chile's support for the setting up of emergency search and rescue teams.

The President and the Prime Minister also agreed on the threat posed by silent diseases such as diabetes, cancer and respiratory illnesses, and highlighted the positive impact of programs such as Elige Vivir Sano (Chose to Live Healthily) and Jamaica Moves. They agreed to work together to exchange experiences in this area.

In terms of energy, President Piñera recognized Jamaica's leadership in the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas.
