President Piñera highlights signs of Chile’s economic reactivation: “Our economy is already recovering thanks to everyone’s efforts, contributions and collaboration”

While visiting a recycling company, President Piñera welcomed the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (Imacec) for September, which showed more robust than anticipated economic performance, with 5.1% growth compared to August.

During a recycling company tour in San Bernardo on Monday, President Sebastián Piñera welcomed signs of Chile’s economic recovery.

This Monday, the Chilean Central Bank published the Monthly Index of Economic Activity for September, which was 5.3% below the same month in 2019, but recorded its best performance since March, leaving double-digit percentage drops behind.

The report also showed that the economy grew 5.1% compared to the previous month, marking four straight months of positive change and gaining momentum.

Our economy is already recovering thanks to everyone’s efforts, contributions and collaboration,” emphasized President Piñera from the recycling plant. He was accompanied by Economy Minister Lucas Palacios and the company’s employees.

The sectors with positive results are directly related to the Government’s measures and step-by-step recovery plan (Paso a Paso Chile se Recupera) that aim to reactivate the economy and set the country into motion by recovering and creating jobs, protecting worker salaries, and supporting SMEs.

Creating jobs and protecting our environment are two priorities at the heart of our Government. We have managed to recover the jobs we lost, reactivate our economy, set the country into motion, but we still have a long road ahead,” affirmed President Piñera.

The President promoted measures totaling US$30 billion, equal to 12% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), to counteract the impact of the pandemic in Chile.
