The President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, noted on Tuesday that over one million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Senior citizens have given us the example of joy, resilience and commitment.  2020 was a year full of hardship.  Let’s make 2021 a year of hope,” said the President who highlighted the large turnout at the vaccination centers.

In Chile, a total of 1,025,580 people have received the vaccine against COVID-19.  Of this total, 376,519 are senior citizens over 78 years old.

“With everyone’s help we will overcome this pandemic, we will recover the joy of living, we will be reunited with our loved ones, and we will be able to resume our life projects,” the President said.

The vaccination plan continues to make progress. Senior citizens between 75 and 77 years old can get vaccinated this Wednesday, those between 73 and 74 on Thursday, while on Friday it will be the turn for those between 71 and 72 years old.

President Piñera concluded, “Thanks to the senior citizens, municipalities, healthcare workers, armed forces, police, and all of us who want to make Chile a better place for you and your families.”
