President Piñera highlights strong economic growth in August: “This is due to the commitment and effort of all Chileans”

Economic activity grew 19.1% in August, well above expectations. The President said that, at this rate, Chile will grow around 10% in 2021 and recover pre-pandemic activity levels.

The President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, highlighted on Friday August’s solid economic growth, which, together with the drop in unemployment, suggest a strong reactivation of economic activity.

“It is so nice to start October with good news. Yesterday, the National Statistics Institute (INE) informed us of the strong job creation in our economy during the last quarter. Today, the Central Bank reports that our economy grew 19.1% during the month of August, outperforming all forecasts, which means that this year we are going to see around 10% growth, to well over pre-pandemic activity levels,” noted the President.

The President of Chile affirmed that “this is due to the commitment and effort of all Chileans; to the very early, successful and widespread vaccination program that has allowed us to reduce restrictions and expand freedoms; and to the public policies promoted by our Government.”

Lastly, the President stressed the importance of economic growth “because it generates further resources to finance the State’s social expenses, and it creates more and better opportunities for workers, people, and SMEs. In addition, because it gives us the assurance and peace of mind that we will be able to impermanently improve the quality of life of all Chilean families.”
