President Boric presents agreement for the recovery of the Alameda-Providencia axis: Read on for more details about the revitalization of this major Santiago artery

The project involves completely updating an eight-kilometer stretch of the avenue between Lo Prado and Providencia.

President Gabriel Boric made an important announcement about the signing of an agreement to recover and revitalize public spaces along the entire Nueva Alameda-Providencia axis.

The renewal effort will stretch from the municipality of Lo Prado to Providencia, covering eight kilometers.

The presentation was attended by the Interior, Finance, Public Works, Housing and Culture Ministers and the Undersecretary of Regional Development, among other officials. The government announced that three years of funding would be provided for the agreement, which runs from 2023 to 2025.

President Gabriel Boric noted that the project is not limited to Santiago. “It includes Santiago, Estación Central, Providencia and Lo Prado. I am deeply grateful to Mayors Felipe Muñoz, Iraci Hassler, Evelyn Matthei and Maximiliano Ríos and to Governor Claudio Orrego, who has pushed for this project to see the light of day since we came to office. Presidential Delegate Constanza Martínez also has played a tremendously important role,” he remarked.

“Major projects involve major efforts and, as Governor Orrego said, these projects must not be limited to any one administration. This is not a matter that depends solely on those of us currently in office. This initiative has no party affiliation. It reflects a national vision in which public spaces must be available to the people so that they can enjoy themselves and come together or simply walk in a safe, pleasant place. We want to make that happen for this space,” the President said.

He added, “This project will significantly change the area from Lo Prado to Providencia. We are engaging in this work in a participatory manner that involves local residents and business owners. The goal is to create a better quality of life and cleaner, brighter and safer public spaces, which we know is a priority for our people.”
