President Piñera receives shipment of 2.2 million COVID-19 vaccines and announces Travel Pass: “It will offer a greater level of mobility to all those who have completely finished their vaccination program.”

The Travel Pass will allow some of the restrictions on movement imposed in municipalities that are under Quarantine or in Transition to be lifted and will permit travel between regions.

The President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, received a new shipment of 2.2 million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine on Sunday. This is the largest shipment of vaccines to reach Chile so far.

He also announced the launch of an upcoming Travel Pass (Pase de Movilidad), which will allow people who have been fully vaccinated to move freely between municipalities that are under Quarantine or in Transition and to travel to municipalities in other regions that are at least in Step 2 (Transition), as long as they comply with the restrictions in place wherever they travel.

“Like all freedoms, those allowed by the Travel Pass come with greater responsibility,” President Piñera said after receiving the vaccines at Arturo Merino Benitez Airport, where he was accompanied by Health Minister Enrique Paris and Science Minister Andrés Couve.

The pass, which can be accessed digitally or in paper format at medical centers and vaccine sites, does not relieve individuals of the obligation to quarantine if they have a confirmed or likely case of COVID-19 or if they have been in close contact with someone who does. Nor does it eliminate the need to take individual self-care measures, such as wearing a mask, practicing physical distancing, hand-washing and ventilating spaces.

“Vaccination is not an individual decision that is made to protect only the health of that person. Getting vaccinated is also an act of solidarity to protect the health and lives of your family members, loved ones, co-workers and communities,” the President remarked.

“I am calling on everyone to get vaccinated, because the vaccine is effective, safe and protects our health. I am also asking everyone to rigorously practice self-care and to closely follow public health regulations. Chile will only overcome this pandemic if we are united in faith and hope, as we always have been,” President Piñera concluded.
