President Piñera receives the flag of the Pan American Games and celebrates Chile’s performance at Lima 2019
Santiago is set to be the headquarters for this regional sports competition in 2023. Chile’s participation in the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games has concluded with its best ever performance.
At the close of the Pan American Games in Lima on Sunday, President Sebastián Piñera received the Pan Am sports flag, symbolizing the fact that the next games will be held in Santiago, Chile in 2023.
President Piñera went to Peru to accompany the Chilean delegation during the final days of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Team Chile had its best ever performance in the competition with 50 medals: 13 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze.
“Behind this is all the effort, hard work, commitment and love for Chile. Chile’s athletes have set a great example,” President Piñera said.
The President added, “we’re sure that the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games that we are going to organize, will, God willing, be the best yet.”
