On Friday, President Sebastián Piñera highlighted the importance of promoting free trade as a tool for promoting global economic recovery from the pandemic.
In a meeting with leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, the President proposed turning the bloc into a free trade zone, intensifying collaboration and maintaining dynamism and the ability to reach consensus.
The forum represents 60% of the global economy and nearly half of the world’s trade in goods and services.
The meeting was attended by its host, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Adern; the President of the United States, Joe Biden; Chinese President Xi Jinping; Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin; Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga; Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison; and other world leaders.
