President Piñera participates in APEC leaders’ meeting

President Piñera participated remotely in a meeting organized by the Prime Minister of New Zealand. The leaders of the United States, China, Russia, Canada and Japan also attended.

On Friday, President Sebastián Piñera highlighted the importance of promoting free trade as a tool for promoting global economic recovery from the pandemic.
 
In a meeting with leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, the President proposed turning the bloc into a free trade zone, intensifying collaboration and maintaining dynamism and the ability to reach consensus.
 
The forum represents 60% of the global economy and nearly half of the world’s trade in goods and services.
 
The meeting was attended by its host, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Adern; the President of the United States, Joe Biden; Chinese President Xi Jinping; Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin; Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga; Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison; and other world leaders.
