President Piñera meets by phone with Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti

The leaders discussed the Peruvian electoral process and efforts to strengthen regional integration.

President of the Republic of Chile Sebastián Piñera met today by phone with Peru’s new president, Francisco Sagasti. 

During the call, President Piñera wished President Sagasti success managing the ongoing electoral process through a transition in the context of the Peruvian constitutional order and institutional structure. The Chilean president told his counterpart that he trusts that the democratic path will lead to harmony and progress for all Peruvians.

During the conversation, they also addressed the importance of continuing joint shared efforts to enhance regional integration through the Pacific Alliance and the Forum for the Progress and Development of South America (PROSUR) in order to achieve inclusive and sustainable development in the region. President Piñera mentioned the importance of strengthening democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights in Latin America. 

Finally, Presidents Piñera and Sagasti discussed the main aspects of the bilateral agenda and the health crisis that both countries are facing. The Chilean president also expressed the need to ensure safe, orderly and regular migration at the border.
