President Piñera highlights achievements of his visit to Singapore: “We have made progress on integrating Chile into the world in order to create more jobs, more investments and better opportunities”

The President spoke highly of the integration opportunities offered by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to connect Chile to a major part of world trade. Piñera will now travel to Papua New Guinea to participate in the 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit, during which he will meet with the Heads of State of China and Japan.

On Friday, President Piñera reflected on his three-day visit to Singapore.

“This has been a very productive tour. We have made progress on integrating Chile into the world in order to create more jobs, more investment and better opportunities. We have learned a great deal about new technologies, established relationships with technology centers and continue to work towards a fuller, happier life with more opportunities and especially more security in order to be able to develop talent,” the President said.

Piñera’s activities included attending the 33rd Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and meeting with the Prime Minister and President of Singapore, the President of Indonesia and the ASEAN Secretary General. He also visited the NEWater water treatment plant, the iTrust Centre for Research in Cyber Security, the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the Port of Singapore and the Centre of Excellence for Testing & Research of Autonomous Vehicles. Chile’s President now travels on to Papua New Guinea, where he will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ summit on Saturday and Sunday. During his visit, Piñera will meet with Chinese President Xi Jiping and the Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia.

The President also noted that Chile will host APEC in 2019.

“It will be a summit of the world’s most dynamic free trade zone. We plan to focus on discussions of the issues that interest us: how to achieve comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable development; how to fully include women, small businesses and indigenous communities in development; and how to achieve an integration 4.0 that allows us to eliminate tariffs and unify systems so that we can all benefit from this integrated world,” he said.
