President Boric appoints Álvaro Elizalde as new Minister Secretary General of the Presidency

The former Minister Secretary General of the Presidency submitted her resignation this morning for health reasons. 

President Gabriel Boric accepted the resignation of Minister Ana Lya Uriarte this Wednesday, and announced Álvaro Elizalde Soto as her replacement to lead the Ministry Secretary General of the Presidency (SEGPRES). 

Álvaro Elizalde Soto holds a degree in Law from the Universidad de Chile. He is currently senator for the Ninth Constituency, in the Maule Region. 

The new minister was president of the Senate between March 11, 2022 and March 14, 2023. In addition, he served as Minister Secretary General of the Government from March 11, 2014 to May 11, 2015, during the second administration of President Michelle Bachelet Jeria. He was also president of the Partido Socialista de Chile.

Ana Lya Uriarte resigned due to a health issue that requires indefinite rest. The President of Chile praises her professionalism, dedication and commitment, and is certain that she will continue to be a part of the political project when she recovers.
