Minister Cerda meets with the President of the IDB to explore potential partnerships

The officials met to address priority areas in which the multilateral funding entity can support Chile’s post-pandemic economic recovery process.

Treasury Minister Rodrigo Cerda met today with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver Carone. The meeting took place during Minister Cerda’s visit to the US capital to meet with US officials and multilateral agencies.

The officials met to address priority areas in which the multilateral funding entity can support Chile’s post-pandemic economic recovery process. They also discussed potential partnerships between the Treasury Ministry and the IDB and reviewed ongoing IDB projects in Chile.

The priority areas that they identified include sustainable finance. The officials analyzed the results of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26), which was held in Glasgow, Scotland, and noted the importance of coordinating efforts to address the economic impacts of climate change in the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean.

“It was a very productive meeting, in which we discussed IDB funding for various initiatives in Chile, as well as how Latin America can overcome the economic crisis. The remedy must be very respectful of the environment and consider climate change. That’s been a key concern in several of the meetings that we’ve held in Washington. As such, economic reactivation should also focus on caring for our climate,” Minister Cerda remarked.

In this context, he highlighted the recent creation of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, which the Chilean Treasury Ministry has implemented in partnership with the IDB. It is due to launch during the first half of January 2022.
