Route 555 to Santiago Airport launches 100% electric fleet

The service began in January and registered almost 95,000 transactions in October, tripling its first month. More than 750,000 people have used the service since its launch.

The Red Movilidad public transport system’s 555 service to Santiago Airport will have a completely electric fleet.

The news was announced by Transport and Telecommunications Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz, together with the director of Metropolitan Public Transport, Paola Tapia.

The route connects the Pajaritos intermodal terminal with the Red Movilidad intermodal airport terminal, passing through the Airport City of Santiago (ENEA). It will thus become the first 100% electric service to and from the airport terminal.

Route 555 100% electric fleet

The Red Movilidad 555 service will have a fleet of ten electric vehicles, which will allow us to care for the environment by reducing carbon emissions.

“We want to exceed 100,000 passengers and we are on the verge of doing so. We had 95,000 passengers in October, which is a record number for this service, and we want to continue connecting more people,” Paola Tapia, director of Metropolitan Public Transport.

The buses will have screens providing up-to-date information on current affairs, events and videos on the operation of Red Movilidad, thanks to a public-private collaborative effort with PubliTV.

In its first month of operation, the 555 service registered 35,000 transactions. In May, the total was around 80,000, and in October it reached 95,000.

“Today, ten months after starting operations, the 555 service reached more than 750,000 transactions. These are numbers that show us that the improvements we are making in public transport are being valued by people. We continue to work for them as the Transport and Telecommunications Ministry not only here, but in the rest of the country,” stated Transport and Telecommunications Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz.
