30 days until the Santiago 2023 Games: Learn about the legacy of the Pan American and Parapan American Games

Part of the legacy of this important sporting event will include a mural and the National Stadium Park, which will be used to practice sports and other outdoor activities.

Authorities announced this morning that there are only 30 days until the start of the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games. They also gave details about an agreement that will allow children from throughout Chile to attend the sporting competitions free of charge.

The announcements were made in the National Stadium Park, so that it could be presented to the public as a place open for them to practice sports, play and walk.

Authorities also announced the creation of a mural on the park’s silo, at the start of the Memory Trail. The mural is in the hands of artist Alejandro Mono González.

Check out the details of Villa Santiago 2023, where international athletes will stay during the Santiago 2023 Games. The apartments will be handed over to families after the games as permanent housing.

The Government has developed an inter-ministerial work program, in which 17 ministries have been actively collaborating so that the entire sporting event can take place under optimal conditions to the benefit of citizens.

Social legacy of the Santiago 2023 Games

One of the main social legacies that Santiago 2023 will leave our country is that the games will inspire the next generations to practice sports.

It is hoped that the games will awaken an interest in sports among the younger generations, and highlight the benefits that physical activity can have in people’s lives. This includes disciplines that until now have been thought of as inaccessible or unfamiliar.

National Stadium Park

The National Stadium Park will be one of the most important material legacies of the Santiago 2023 Games.

It is not only home to several sites of memory, which contribute to a reflection on and valuing of full respect for human rights, but it is also a place full of green areas that the public can use for recreation.

Painting the National Stadium Park silo

The project to paint the National Stadium Park silo is an idea that has been floated by different institutions for at least a year, as part of commemorations for the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état. The area of culture for Santiago 2023 took on the challenge of making it happen for the Santiago 2023 Games.

The mural will be painted by artist Alejandro Mono González, who has been authorized to carry out the work by the National Monuments Council.

The brother of the famous artist was imprisoned in the National Stadium during the first months of the civil-military dictatorship.

The original design of the mural was developed through a collective participatory process between the artist, family members, former prisoners and members of the Estadio Nacional, Memoria Nacional Corporation.

The mural will be a tribute to the victims of the dictatorship. It will be full of colors symbolizing hope for a future in which these events will never again be repeated.
